February 2nd is Imbolic or Groundhog Day if you prefer. It’s the half way point of winter. It’s a perfect time to start thinking about spring whether it’s going to be early or another full six weeks of wintery weather.
For Real Toads, the Sunday Mini Challenge is to write a Cinquain. It’s a 5-line poem with a syllable count of 2, 4, 6, 8, 2. It’s often about nature, uses imagery and has a twist at the end. It also needs a strong title.
Imbolic
Snowy
Winter’s blanket
Covers flowers and rock
Deep beneath earth’s deathly white shroud
Spring blooms
For Haiku Heights, the theme this week is Pride.
foolish winter’s pride
sunshine chases cold away
promise of spring near
***

I too wish spring is near but not yet…I like the cinquain form ~
Love it. The little twist at the end it perfect.
Are you sure about Spring being under all that chill?
Love the skeleton trees against the clouds.
beautiful! i had to look up your strong title
Beautiful nature and its oppositions.
I’m about ready to dig up that spring.
‘earth’s deathly white shroud’…i like that description of snow. Nice capture of the season in your cinquain and haiku too.
I have learned a new word today, all thanks to you and this ‘wishing for spring’ poem.
..all are turning to spring topics now…pushing it’s way here almost ..;)
beautiful photos and words!!!
these are lovely…I’m listening to birds sing of spring despite a fresh powder of snow from last night:-)
Beautiful photos. Love both the cinquain and haiku
Such beauty here in word and image. It never really gets cold here for very long yet I wish for spring.
I love the offering of hope in your poem!
fun to read and imagine!
I long for spring~
lovely haiku. Very nicely crafted.
It’s almost more of a haiku in feel and subject, but it’s an admirably tight cinquain, which seems easy until you try it.
Gorgeous and I can’t wait for spring too.
