Magpie Tales #29

Toad houses nestled among the herbs

Bird houses and feeders adorn the yard

Red geraniums in the windowbox

Sheltered from pesky neighbors’ eyes by the trees

The odor of fresh baked bread from the kitchen

A black cat lounging in the back yard

Waiting for dusk to light a dancing fire

No ramshackle little hut, but a cozy cottage

This is the modern witch’s home

This was written for Willow’s Magpie Tales.  Be sure to visit.

  1. A witch’s cottage, what a wonderful idea and your words paint it perfectly. I just love the idea of ‘Toad houses nestled among the herbs’. A wonderful magpie

  2. Waiting for dusk to light a dancing fire is such a beautiful line. From your very first line I considered this poem a charming glimpse of the cottage.

  3. One of the first things that crossed my mind when I saw the image was of a witch’s house. I’m glad you saw and wrote about it. I like the black cat and the trees keeping out nosy neighbors.
