Magpie #32

I woke up this morning a young girl;

Life was paper dolls and teddy bears.

Somehow I lost track of time,

and the bears were traded for boys

the paper dolls turned to text books.

At lunch I graduated and started

my afternoon as a young adult.

What a glorious afternoon–

bartending, college, pregnancy,

motherhood, teacher, farmer.

As I begin to prepare my evening meal,

eaten without my adult son,

I wonder how so many grains

have fallen through the hourglass.

I wonder what the dropping of the

remaining grains will bring to my world.
