The Corn Moon

She looks up at the full August moon.

Her hands move easily with a rhythm that says

she’s been milking goats for a long time.

As she gazes to the sky, she hears the chirring of cicadas.

She wonders about those that have milked and

gazed upon the moon for thousands of years before her.
