Winter Contentment

Giant wet snowy globs splat against the window.

The wind whooshes against the house.

Old windows upstairs rattle and bang

behind their plastic encasement.

A loud winter song, raucus and deafening.

Inside, I sit cozy beneath the green fleece throw.

Cat on my lap; warm cocoa in my cup;

Good book open in my hands.

I smile in peace and contentment

as winter rages outside.

  1. This was pure pleasure for me, a Sonoran Desert dweller. We get freezing temps, but snow only comes every few years on the desert floor, making your descriptors so romantic!

  2. Awesome image, great poem, Teresa! This was pretty much the story of my past week – there’s something to be said for being cloistered with good books in a winter storm.
