High Blood Pressure

An icy fist grips my heart

constantly holding me captive,

wringing all joy from my soul.

Dread and fear surround me,

my constant twin companions.

I step into the morning world

with its bright cheerful sun

wondering if this is the day

the hand will squeeze more tightly

causing my heart to explode.

It’s Open Link Night at d’Verse Poets.  Don’t miss the fun!

  1. I can read this on a metaphorical as well as a literal level, which gives it more bang for the buck, as they say…always enjoy and sometimes marvel at what you produce.

P.S. Kiss that goat for me!

  2. Same sensation I’ve felt so many times, but when it was reaching its climax, it went away…till the next episode, when?, only God knows. Sometimes my heart was working at more than 150 beats/min., but it didn’t explode!
Finally doctors decided it was just a problem of a gassy stomach pressing my heart, that’s all.
Very well expressed and nice image.
    🙂

  3. I’m swallowing my meds as we speak–and walking every day, but no one gets out of here alive, and you can’t freak out on yourself over the way it is, just work with it as much as you can, or it ruins the life you have left, as you hint at here–and that is a great pic to go with this hard-hitting little number. Nice job, Teresa.

  4. You tackle a serious and important topic with your words, one that is doing a fine job of wrecking havoc with my own life right now with my dad, who is also my boss, who is also one of my best friends…we’re living with a fear that could have been prevented with educations and prevention…thank you for the write.
