Flying

Standing on the edge of the world

tired of waiting to fly away;

wings or not, I’m taking off

from this moment in time spot.

Balanced on the ball of my feet,

arms spread, wind on my face

looking to the open blue sky,

 ready to leave it all behind

moving forward, to soar away.

No more worry and stress,

instead soaring across the sky

towards new found freedom.

On my way, but hardly moving

looking down, I see a great weight

attached with chains to my foot,

pulling me back to this moment;

stopping my forward flight.

With no other choice, I stop.

I can’t fly away until I’ve

untethered the stress moving with me.

It’s there for the flight until

it too has been set free.
