This Halloween time of year reminds me of when we were kids and could scare ourselves over the smallest things as we played outside.  Of course, I think there might have been a bit of help from my older sister.  The challenge at Real Toads today is to write a poem inspired by the season or a poem form known as Melancholia.  It has a syllable count and rhyme scheme that is completely explained at the Real Toads site.  There you’ll also find more poems written in this style.

walking through the cemetery

glancing towards a dark night sky

through I try

fear runs free scaring me

as I start to cry

I see through darkness of night

a candle shining bright
