Summer’s Farewell

the cicada chorus sings its
sad farewell to summer,
a raucous mocking of
Litha’s brilliantly dying finery
fading into hushed hues of
fall’s formal funeral dress;
it’s a loud summoning
for leaves to loose from trees,
birds to take wing for warmer climes,
and me to retreat into myself,
reflecting and waiting for spring’s rebirth

For G-Man and his every fun Friday Flash 55.  I’m also shamelessly advertising.  My novel is quite close to being available.  If you haven’t checked out my author page, it is primarily my photography paired with quotes.  You can like it for updates.  There’s a link in my sidebar, or you can click the picture below.

  1. So cold here this morning–truly feels like autumn has us firmly in our grasp. Yes, summer is way too fleeting. But I have to admit we’re about to begin my favorite season!

    Loved this, Teresa. Hope all is well!

  2. Cicada Chorus… I remember 3 years ago when we moved here, the “chorus” shocked me. I’m used to it now, but I still prefer my Northern crickets (yes, there is a difference). Hey…I “liked” your author page 🙂

  3. Teresa…
    I am so very proud that you would use The Friday Funfest
