Silence

As I delve into genealogy, there are things I discover that make me raise an eyebrow and question what happened.  Sadly, in  times when women and children were considered property, abuse was rife.  I wonder if giving voice to those victims might help others.  I hope so.  Sharing with Friday Flash 55.

Silence is golden

the old saying goes,

but in my world

silence is darkness,

protecting evil and

crushing my soul.

Speak out to

bring light to those

night time horrors.

Light a candle

to lead my healing;

send his evil ways

to hell below with

other monsters who

attack the innocent

under cover of night.

  1. The evil always work under cover of darkness. Their cowardice demands it.Thanks for shining one small light. The single bulb inside a lighthouse prism shines for miles across black water.

Sorry for being so late….just got back from a long trip north.

  2. “send his evil ways
to hell below…” I’ll help send his butt where it belongs. Oh, yes, history and the way things used to be (still are in many parts of the world) is just so hard to comprehend… Wonderful poem on a tough subject.

  3. You are right Teresa. When it comes to sexual abuse, silence is evil and only protects the abuser. This is not an easy subject to tackle but you have done it well. Your poem is subtle and yet powerful.

  4. Teresa…
If everyone lit just one little candle, what a bright world this would be!
Once again you’ve out done yourself
    Loved your illuminating 55
Thanks for playing, thanks for the awareness message, You Rock!
    Have a Kick Ass Week-End

  5. It can be more subtle than you may realize. In my family there was no abuse. My grandmother always had her say. But after my grandfather died I suddenly started hearing a whole new set of stories – stories from her side of the family that simply hadn’t had a chance to air because we were always listening to his stories before.

  6. What’s so sad is that it continues to this day. We throw light and the darkness still tries to swallow it whole. Beautiful and touching, Teresa. Happy November! 🙂 Oh, and ordered some of your beautiful soaps. Can’t wait to try them!

  7. nice….we used to have a light the night event in college which was all about stalkers and those that attack women…it was always empowering to hear the stories of overcoming what had happened to them and lighting those candles to push back the dark…

  8. Yes, lighting a candle, ending the silence, is something we all need to do–and sadly, abuse of women and children is far from being a thing of the past, though at least now we (at least those of us not in red states) have emancipated women, and attempt to acknowledge it. An excellent, serious 55, Teresa.
