Chantilly Lace

The challenge at Real Toads yesterday was to write a poem inspired by lace. This is for my MJ.

Chantilly lace
the finest quality
black silk transformed
into a mourning veil,
a delicate shroud,
to shield my
red, swollen eyes
from the stares
of the world around me.
My heart and soul
lies in a dead heap
waiting for Mother
Earth to reclaim
his broken body.
My heart and soul
dies a little bit
at the thought of life
without his undying love.

  1. What a wonderful old gentleman MJ appears in the photo – he looks tired. Now he will rest. I so know the heartbreak in your lines for I too have lost a creature so dear I could not imagine being without him. And I still am not used to it, three years later. Blessings to you. Mark his spot and visit it often. I am so sorry for your loss.

  2. and another thought … I’m so glad he waited for the warmth of the sun and the new life sprouting – winter is not the time to go. He chose well.
