Watching

Today the challenge at Real Toads is to write a poem inspired by cats.  I can do that.  I have real life inspiration around here!  I’m also sharing with d’Verse Poets for their open link.

Bob--my livestock guardian cat

Bob–my livestock guardian cat

Almond slit pupils
narrowed to watch
catching all movement
waiting, waiting, waiting
Ready to pounce!

High arched back and
bottle-brush swishing tail;
a warning to prey and predator
–don’t mess with me.
Hear me roar!

Ready for a fight,
never gonna back down.
Growling, growling, growling,
better be ready to fight–
This pussy bites!

  1. I love cats and would love to own one – although realising the cat would really own me – but can’t as I am very allergic to the bites of the livestock they often carry..
Love your very accurate description of our feline friends.
    Kind regards

  2. You told this nice, Teresa. Cats are sooo brave when on the attack, seems they think they are invincible. That’s when they initiate. But given a predator or upset human and they are on the defensive, playing ‘scaredy-cat .’
I like cats also. We have reached the age where a cat would be a big liability, in tripping and the like and also taking care of properly. Same for a dog.
