Scars

The challenge today at d’Verse Poetry is to write a poem in exactly 44 words and incorporate the word scar.  I’m also sharing with Real Toads for the Tuesday Platform.

candlelight

Hidden scars from
unseen wounds,
borne in silence;
carried all alone.

The deepest cut,
hardest to bear,
inflicted by those
supposed to protect us.

Instead, perpetrate crimes
trafficking our lives,
our bodies, our souls;
stolen freedom.

No way out–
no hope–
hidden scars
bleed forever…
