Broken Heart

Today’s challenge for Real Toads is to write a poem that describes a human in terms of things, focusing on diction and imagery.  I’m also sharing at d’Verse Poets for their open link.

bleeding-heart

Rejected–
a mother’s love crumpled
up and tossed aside,
thrown out like
yesterday’s trash.
Breaking a heart
into shards of glass
left to be swept up,
never to be glued
into wholeness again.

  1. I adore the bleeding heart plant and often think of them as metaphor. In your poem, the sadness seeps through much more harshly in shards of glass. Very heartrending to read.

  2. I’ve heard of hearts being broken as glass but not until now the idea that they are “left to be swept up”. Nice description. Also, I hope you find your heart has healed soon on its own.
