Inspired by “Night Circus”

I’m late to the party!  Saturday’s task at Real Toads was to take a quote from the last book we read and turn it into a three-stanza poem or micro-fiction.  I am currently reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaimon, but the last book I finished is Erin Morgenstern’s Night Circus.  I’ve chosen a quote from Night Circus:

Life takes us to unexpected places sometimes.  The future is never set in stone, remember that.  -Erin Morgenstern

a crazy cat lady,
alone with books,
a cup of tea, and felines.

Instead I imagined
travel and excitement,
far away journeys
exploring different worlds.

As I sit, cat in lap,
a cup of tea in hand,
and a good book too–
I find I like this better.

  1. There comes a time when a person shifts into another gear like this, when the ambition wans. This isn’t you yet but soon might be me. We loved our South American cruise, from L.A. to Rio. But both of us cross Machu Picchu off our list.
